MaxView™ Wide Angle Eyepieces
These fully multicoated wide angle eyepieces give superb contrasty views visually or through a digital camera. Designed specifically for Nikon cameras with 28mm threaded lenses they also perform well on many others. Available in two sizes, 14mm and 18mm. The 14mm uses a 5 element/4 group optical arrangement and the 18mm uses a 4 element/3 group optical arrangement. The wide AFOV of 66.2 degrees is normally only found in eyepieces costing over twice as much. The fold down rubber eyecup and 19mm of eye relief provide comfortable viewing, even with glasses. The MaxView™ Wide Angle Eyepiece is supplied in a bolt-style storage bottle.
To use the MaxView™ Wide Angle Eyepiece as a Nikon digital camera adapter simply unthread the eyeguard to reveal the integral 28mm Nikon thread. This thread will screw directly into many Nikon cameras such as the 800/900/990/995/4500 and many more with the proper adapter (such as Nikon 880/885/5000, and Sony 37mm cameras and camcorders).
Once threaded into the camera you simply insert it into the scope. The eyepiece will fit any standard 1.25" eyepiece port. In tests with the Nikon 995 there was virtually no vignetting thoughout the entire zoom range of the camera. In all of our experience in this field we have tested no other arrangement that could achieve this level of performance.
Comparison of other (left) and the ScopeTronix MaxView™ WA 14mm Eyepiece (right) at full wide angle.
Other similar products require you to zoom the camera to 2X to eliminate vignetting. By contrast our MaxView™ WA eyepieces give you a non-vignetted image even at the full wide angle zoom position. Thus they offer a much wider true field of view even though they are higher power! The comparison pictures above were taken with a Nikon 995 and TeleVue 85 scope.
Let's look at an example with a 1000mm focal length telescope and a camera with a 3X optical zoom. The "other" 24mm eyepiece that requires you to zoom to 2X will have a minimum usable power of 83X and a maximum usable power of 124X. That's a spread of only 41X. By contrast our 18mm WA eyepiece offers a minimum usable power of 55X and a maximum of 166X, a spread of 111X! Our 14mm version would be 71X to214X, a spread of 143X! If you have a 4X zoom the numbers are even more impressive. Aside from the vignetting issue the MaxView™ WA eyepieces offer a much wider AFOV, and a flatter field with more even illumination across the CCD chip..
Even if these 66+ degree AFOV eyepieces are only used visually they compare favorably to eyepieces that cost twice the price, whereas visually the competition is just a duplication of a mid power Plossl you probably already own.Worth a few bucks more? You decide...

Customer Quotes

"I just received the MaxView™ 40 I ordered earlier this week. I am using it with an ETX-90 and Sony DSC-F707 digital camera. I am blown away with the quality of this eyepiece. Here's a shot of the Moon taken with the MaxView™ 40. Great eyepiece, I recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a good eyepiece to use with their digital camera. Thanks for the great service as well."
